Salasso Rosso 2023
State of the wine
Salasso Rosso 2023 is a concentrated Pinot Noir with clear tension. It comes from the same origin as Salasso Rosé, but follows its own path. A wine with structure, carried by freshness and grip.
Origin
The grapes come from broad volcanic terraces on the southwest-facing slope of the Kaiserstuhl. Open sites overlooking the Rhine and Alsace. Warm days, cool air movement. The origin shapes the wine more than any stylistic decision.
Work in the vineyard and cellar
The base is Pinot Noir. After harvest, around half of the juice is drawn off for rosé production. The remaining part ferments in open oak vats with skins and stems for around three weeks. Daily punch-downs for gentle extraction of structure and tannin. After pressing, ageing for twelve months in old barriques. Regular lees contact to integrate stem tannins without smoothing them out.
Style
A dry, tension-driven Pinot Noir. Taut in structure, with fine grain and clear length. Not a decorative red wine. But a wine with stance.
