State of the wine

Chardonnay 2024 follows no continuity. It belongs to one growing season and one decision. Limestone and volcanic soils meet extended élevage, resulting in a wine shaped by restraint, texture and persistence rather than volume.

Origin

The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Kaiserstuhl, where limestone and volcanic soils coexist within a fragmented landscape. The combination brings tension, salinity and quiet depth.

Work in the vineyard and cellar

Harvest was guided by balance rather than sugar accumulation. Half of the grapes remained as whole clusters, the other half was gently crushed. Three days of maceration on skins and stems preceded pressing. Spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place in used barriques, followed by twenty months of ageing with restrained bâtonnage. No fining. No filtration.

Style

Restrained and dry. Citrus, yeast and subtle smoky notes unfold over a chalky texture with saline persistence. A Chardonnay that finds its depth through precision, grip and remarkable length rather than richness.
