Pinot Gris 2023
State of the wine
Pinot Gris 2023 shows a different side of the Kaiserstuhl. A wine with tension and depth, guided by freshness rather than volume. The 0.75 l bottling is sold out. Only a few Magnum remain.
Origin
The grapes come from broad terraces on the southwest-facing slope of the Kaiserstuhl, overlooking the Rhine and Alsace. Volcanic subsoil, topped by a deep loess profile. This combination ensures supply and freshness, even in warm years.
Work in the vineyard and cellar
Harvest focuses on tension and structure. After harvest, the grapes are crushed in open vats and left on skins and stems for five days. Gentle pressing with a traditional basket press. Spontaneous fermentation without additions. Ageing for ten months in old barriques. Lees contact is deliberately restrained to avoid amplifying the natural richness of Pinot Gris.
Style
A precise Pinot Gris with a clear line. Juicy, saline, with palpable tension. Not a broad wine. Not an easy one.
